Meridian Community College Industrial Technology Program students brought home 10 first place awards as they were top winners in the SkillsUSA state competition.
First place winners in the Teamworks competition were Shannon Bedwell of York, Ala., Bradley Reeves of Quitman, Jacob Touchstone of Collinsville and Jacob Watts of Meridian. The students are in the Construction Trades and Electrical Technology Program.
In the Electrical Construction Wiring competition, Brandon Arkuszeski of Meridian, an Electrical Technology Program student, won first place. Jordan Perkins of Meridian, also an Electrical Technology Program student, won first in the Sheet Metal Contest. In the CNC Milling Specialist competition, Daniel Gordon of Meridian, a Precision Machining Technology Program Student, garnered a first-place award. Clay Upchurch of Bailey, won first in the CNC Technician contest; he is a student in the Precision Machining Technology Program. Dustin Spelich of Meridian and Justin Crowson of Quitman, also students studying in the Precision Machining Technology Program, won first place for CNC Turning Specialist and Prepared Speech contests, respectively.
Construction Trades student Darrell Phillips of Enterprise captured a second-place nod for the Cabinetmaking contest, and Hal Totten of Bailey won second place in the Welding-Individual competition. Totten is a student in the Welding and Cutting Technology Program.
Other Welding and Cutting Technology Program students, Wayne Cook, Danny Miller and Josh Sims, all of Meridian, won third place in the Welding Fabrication Team contest.
Dillon Turner of Quitman, a student in the Welding and Cutting Technology Program, participated in the Welding Sculpture contest.
