First, if you are sick, please stay home. Also, if you have a higher risk of severe illness, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that you limit time from home and avoid large groups as much as possible. Speak to your supervisor to confirm the impact on your work responsibilities. You should develop a “ready bag” to take home at the end of each day that would allow you to continue working offsite at a moment’s notice. Be sure to follow the college’s policies to ensure the protection of confidential and sensitive information.
If you have symptoms like cough, fever, or difficulty breathing, call your health care provider or the emergency room for instructions on your next steps. If you are having a medical emergency, call 911. *This list is not all inclusive. Please consult your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning.
It’s understandable that people are feeling a little stressed right now. This is an unprecedented public health issue and things seem to be moving rapidly. Remember that people process stress differently and be kind to one another. You can also:
  • Stay informed, but avoid excessive media coverage of COVID-19.
  • Take care of your body: meditate, exercise, eat healthy and get plenty of sleep.
  • Make time for activities you enjoy.
  • Share your concerns with a trusted family member or friend.
  • Remind yourself that this situation is not forever. We’ll get through this.

Social distancing is a term for measures that create distance between people in settings where they might otherwise come in close contact. Large gatherings (10 people or more) and non-essential meetings should be canceled. Additional measures that are available to create distance between people include:
  • Maintaining distance from others whenever possible.
  • Working remotely, in alternative locations and alternating schedules.
Yes, you must stay home. You may work remotely with your supervisor’s approval.

Faculty and staff will be paid their regular pay, whether salary or hourly, for those currently working at the college or who work from home in approved “Telework” status, and those approved for “administrative leave” as they are currently quarantined for containment purposes due to travel, crowds or possible illness. Those who are quarantined for travel or crowds will be approved for 14 days from the date of their return.

Supervisors will be communicating with all employees if they have approved telework status. Those who are working in this manner will be expected to sign an MCC Telework Agreement/Waiver, acknowledging such things as expectations of maintaining office hours, being available by phone, safeguarding private employee and student data, and safeguarding of MCC equipment.

In addition, those who have self-quarantined due to a higher-risk status and are unable to work from home, should submit medical documentation/statement of their reasoning for the request for and may be approved for administrative leave. If administrative leave approved, employees will be paid their regular pay, whether salary or hourly.

The college has a mandatory direct deposit policy. Any employee who has not submitted their direct deposit form should bring a blank check with their bank routing and account number when they pick up their checks. Checks will not be released from the HR office/Business Office without submission of a completed Direct Deposit Form. (Forms are available on Eaglenet - Employee Tab, Under General Forms – Select “Leave Requests, Travel Forms, Other Business Office forms.” It is the first form “Request Direct Deposit.”) If for any reason an employee is unable to provide bank account information, any checks that must be cut during this situation, may be mailed to the address on file in banner.

Supervisors will explore and develop alternative work options in order to ensure continuity of operations for our students. These options are to assist with social distancing and to mitigate the spread of any illnesses. Options to be considered may include telecommuting, adjusted work schedules and alternative work locations.

Employees working remotely must have current access to appropriate technology and information to perform their job function. To manage traffic volume, the college is working on defining critical functions for granting remote access and providing additional needed equipment.

If working remotely is approved, work with your supervisor to make sure you have access to the systems and applications you need. Many are web-based. Here are examples of a few:
  • Office 365
  • Outlook Web Access (Email)
  • Canvas
  • Banner
  • Zoom

Housekeeping personnel have increased cleaning and disinfecting of high-touch surfaces and restrooms campus wide. The custodial staff is responsible for disinfecting all hard surfaces in common areas including door levers, work surfaces, computer labs, work stations, hard seating, hallways, classrooms, restrooms, etc.

Employees should disinfect work areas and personal office areas as needed throughout the day.

Any event with 10 or more total participants is suspended until further notice.

We recommend that you schedule essential meetings only. Reschedule existing nonessential meetings or hold them via phone or Zoom. It is the responsibility of the meeting organizer to determine whether a meeting is essential.

When in person meetings are required, people should sit at least 6 feet from each other and avoid shaking hands.

The college has suspended all MCC-related in-state, out-of-state or international travel. If your conference is within the next two months, you’ll need to cancel. Call your hotel, airline and conference organizers as soon as possible. The earlier you call, the more likely you’ll receive a refund.

If you cannot get a refund, attach appropriate documentation for your nonrefundable charge (receipt and any applicable correspondence with the vendor requesting cancelation and reimbursement) to your reimbursement request and follow the standard college procedures for requesting travel reimbursement and/or reconciling your procurement card statement. Any and all travel will have to be pre-approved by the College President, until further notification.

If approved, we encourage you to follow these suggestions:

  • Wait as long as possible before booking. It is more cost-effective to pay full price rather than an early registration/reservation special in the event the event gets cancelled.
  • Book refundable flights or book with airlines who will offer full-cancellation refunds. Such airlines include: American Airlines, JetBlue, Alaska Airlines, Southwest (Business Select tickets).
  • Book directly with the hotel/airline rather than through a third-party vendor, such as Expedia or Hotels.com, as the direct vendors have more favorable refund/cancelation policies.
While limiting the spread of the virus is important, we also must avoid the stigma that sometimes accompanies such illnesses. Don’t make assumptions about individuals you believe may have come into contact with COVID-19. In some cases, public reactions to the virus have been sensationalized. Individuals at some higher education institutions have reported encountering related discrimination and harassment. This will not be tolerated at MCC.
