Fundraiser for MCC Surgical Technology

EagleMania II brings wrestling, cheers back to Dulaney

From the opening bell to the closing of the main event, Eaglemania II brought cheers as professional wrestling returned to Meridian.

Eaglemania II, a fundraiser for the Surgical Technology Program at Meridian Community College, brought in hundreds of fans to the Tommy E. Dulaney Center on Friday, March 29, for a night of body slams, clotheslines and chokeholds. This is the second year for Eaglemania.

“Tonight was a good night for Meridian Community College and our Surgical Technology Program. We have people here of all ages having a great time and enjoying themselves. This is great public relations for our program and for Meridian Community College,” said Mecklin Soules, the MCC Surgical Technology Program coordinator and instructor. Soules was also the organizer of the event.

The capacity crowd was entertained from the opening bell all the way to end of the main event featuring Rey Fury vs. The Minotaur. Meridian Community College President Dr. Tom Huebner got the night started by welcoming the crowd. The opening match featuring Corey Roberts vs. Matt Kenway brought cheers from the audience as the wrestlers battled on stage. The first loud roar of the night came as Kenway pinned Roberts for the win.

The night was full of excitement for fans of all ages. This family-friendly event encouraged fan participation and gave the children in the audience an opportunity to get inside the ring. After the tag-team match, Big Mike Carter invited youngsters to come inside the ring, and excited children filled the ring. One of the young fans in attendance, nine-year-old Preston Tomberlin, said, “I love it. I came to it last year, and I had a great time and definitely wanted to come back again this year. I really liked watching Ursa Major wrestle.”

During the championship match, Monty Warbucks crawled over for the cover, with no referee in sight. As the crowd waited in anticipation, Dr. Huebner took it upon himself to slide into the ring and count the one-two-three, and as the crowd cheered, he raised the hand of the new Heavyweight Champ Monty Warbucks.

The main event of the evening featured Rey Fury vs. The Minotaur. The crowd cheered as the wrestlers battled to finish out the evening. One last loud cheer came from the crowd as Rey Fury emerged victoriously.
