Approximately 150 high school students from Meridian and Lauderdale County schools got a chance to take a closer look at health care careers Thursday as they took part in an open house sponsored Meridian Community College’s Associate Degree Nursing Program and Health Education division.
After looking at the programs, Southeast Lauderdale student Kaylee Weir said she was excited to see all of the options MCC has to offer. “It makes it hard to choose,” she added.
Debra Herring, MCC Radiologic Technology Program coordinator and instructor, spearheaded the event, saying, “open house is an excellent opportunity to reach those allied health students who have been studying healthcare careers.”
The College’s programs of Medical Assisting, Healthcare Assistant, Nursing, Physical Therapist Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, Respiratory Care Practitioner, Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiologic Technology, Health Information Technology and Surgical Technology were spotlighted. MCC Ivy League Recruiters Anna Katherine Slaughter and Courtney Reed helped with the event, escorting the students during the six-hour session.
