MCC pinning ceremony celebrates Practical Nursing Program students’ work

Twenty-five Meridian Community College Practical Nursing Program students received their pins during a Friday ceremony honoring the students’ achievements.

Held in the Temple Theater before the College’s Summer commencement, the pinning ceremony serves as way to welcome the students into the nursing profession. In addressing the students during the ceremony, MCC President Dr. Thomas Huebner offered congratulations to the students. “You’re just getting started. You’ve got a whole life in front of you in making a difference in the lives of people, families and this community.”

Class president Chiquita Slaughter-Stewart told classmates and the audience the day marked the ending of one journey and the beginning of a new one, and she reminded classmates that compassion is vital to all. “We are the helping hand for the people of our community. We should realize by helping one person we are making a difference … making the world a better place, one patient at a time.”
